Abstract
Although the delineation between “skeletal” and “non-skeletal” muscles is debatable, it is obvious that some specialized cross-striated muscles or muscle fibres differ morphologically and physiologically from typical skeletal muscles moving the body or maintaining posture. The findings on these muscles are reviewed here.
