Summary
The paper presents results of visualisation studies of the vortex layer shedding from a symmetrical Joukovsky profile into a parallel flow of Reynolds number equal to 8·103 due to a sudden change of circulation following rotation by a small angle. Evolution, formation of a coherent structure and dissipation of the layer is presented using the smoke-wire technique. The reason of the short-lived intensification of the path behind the trailing vortex is discussed. Some results of quantitative considerations on the velocity and circulation of the vortex are presented.
