Kinetics of Free and Bound Excitons in Semiconductors

With tunable short pulse laser sources it has now become possible to examine the kinetics of excitons in semiconductors with detail not possible previously. Here we illustrate the point in the case of excitonic phenomena at low densities for three compound semiconductors, Cu2O, GaSe, and Cd1−xMnxTe, the range of phenomena varying from energy-dependent free exciton collisions to thermalization processes characteristic of localized excitons.
