Abstract
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is a curious disease which has been ignored by medical science for decades. It has excited little interest probably because it tends to be indolent and is found mostly in the elderly. “Found” is a good word because it is almost as often discovered by accident as it is sought because of manifestations of illness. Though the pathophysiology of bone marrow replacement is essentially the same as in the acute leukemias, the course of the disease is measured in years rather than weeks or months.
