Zusammenfassung

Der Mesopharynx (Synonyma: Pars oralis pharyngis, Oropharynx, Buccopharynx) stellt die eigentliche Kreuzungsstelle der Luft- und Speisewege dar. Diesem kurzen Verbindungsstück des Pharynx kommt demnach eine große Bedeutung beim Schlucken und Sprechen sowie für den freien Durchgang der Atemluft zu. Es ergibt sich daraus, daß Tumoren des Mesopharynx je nach ihrer Lage und Größe einmal mehr die Schluckfunktion oder die Atmung beeinträchtigen. Ferner ist zu bedenken, daß der Hauptanteil des Waldeyerschen Rachenrings — mit den Tonsillen, den lymphatischen Seitensträngen und der Zungenbasis — im Mesopharynx liegt, weshalb die vom lymphatischen Gewebe ausgehenden Neoplasien gerade für den Mesopharynx wegen ihrer relativen Häufigkeit eine wichtige Rolle spielen.
