Zusammenfassung
Seit im Jahre 1955 zuletzt über die Viruskrankheiten im HNO-Bereich berichtet wurde, hat sich das Gebiet der Virologie bedeutend fortentwickelt. Vor allem mit molekularbiologischen Methoden, der DNS-Hybridisierung, Genklonierung, Genmapping und der Immunzytochemie können Viren spezifisch nachgewiesen werden. Seit langer Zeit sind bei Tieren virusbedingte Tumoren bekannt, die auch experimentell durch Virusinfektionen erzeugt werden können. Bei der Suche nach ähnlichen malignen Tumoren des Menschen stieß man Mitte der 60er Jahre auf das endemisch in Zentralafrika vorkommende Burkitt-Lymphom (BL). Es stellte sich heraus, daß in den Zellen dieses Tumors das Epstein-Barr-Virus vorkam. Beim Vergleich der Antikörpertiter gegen das Epstein-Barr-Virus (EBV) bei Patienten mit BL und anderen Tumoren fiel auf, daß auch Patienten mit Nasenrachenkarzinomen (NPC) ähnlich hohe Antikörpertiter gegen das gleiche Virus entwickelten.
Sämtliche eigenen Untersuchungen wurden an Patienten der Universitäts Hals-Nasen-Ohrenklinik Köln (Direktor: Prof. Dr. Dr. F. Wustrow) durchgeführt.
