Abstract

In the Congress Prof. H.H. Fernlholz asked for reports on uncertainty in measurements. This led to the expression by several workers of unwillingness to perform uncertainty analyses or disbelief in their utility. Since we have been using uncertainty analyses in our laboratory for 30 years, and since no general discussion of purposes, uses, advantages and disadvantages is known to me, such a discussion seems appropriate and is presented here.
