Abstract
The late RUSSELL L. HOLMAN(1) in 1961 raised the question, “Atherosclerosis—a Pediatric Nutrition Problem?” Holman’s colleagues, J.P. STRONG and H.C. MCGILL, JR,(2) eight years later attempted to answer this provocative question in a paper concerning the pediatric aspects of atherosclerosis. They indicated that the atherosclerotic process was not inevitable but at least in part environmentally determined. They suggested that preventive measures undertaken before fibrous plaques become extensive should control permanently the epidemic of heart disease. In 1978 a volume entitled “Atherosclerosis: Its Pediatric Aspects” edited by WILLIAM B. STRONG (3) was published. This volume summarized the status of knowledge concerning atherosclerosis in children at that time.
