Abstract
Physicians and technicians engaged in CT examinations are required to understand the functions and limitations of CT scanners. In the United States, both the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) are concerned with the performance evaluation of CT scanners, and have presented various recommendations for standardization (HEW 1978 a, 1978b; Judy et al. 1977; McCullough et al. 1976; McCullough 1980). The International Commission on Radiological Units and Measurements (ICRU) has also been active in defining common technical terms for CT. This performance evaluation has been discussed in Japan (Takenaka et al. 1979) as one of the main subjects in CT imaging
