Zusammenfassung
Eine wichtige Planungsgröße für Therapiestudien ist der Stichprobenumfang, der benötigt wird, um eine vorgegebene “klinisch relevante” Differenz Δ mit — ebenfalls vorgegebener — Wahrscheinlichkeit (1−β) aufzudecken. Die Theorie dieses Schätzproblems für dichotome Zielgrößen, d.h. falls zwei Erfolgsraten pl und p2 verglichen werden, ist weitgehend abgeschlossen. Es erscheint daher angebracht, in einer als Anleitung für den Praktiker gedachten Arbeit die vorliegenden Ergebnisse zu einer dem aktuellen Stand entsprechenden Empfehlung zusammenzufassen, um der Verwirrung durch überholte Vorschläge entgegenzuwirken. Für Zielgrößen anderer Art ist die Entwicklung noch im Fluß; für Oberlebenszeiten — den für Therapiestudien wichtigsten Typ — sei hier auf die Arbeit von Schumacher (1981) verwiesen.
