The Neural and Hormonal Control of Glycogen Metabolism in Mammalian Skeletal Muscle

  • Conference paper
Structural and Functional Aspects of Enzyme Catalysis

Abstract

Cyclic AMP [1,2], cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase [3] and the phenomenon of enzyme regulation by phosphorylation-dephosphorylation [4] were all discovered during studies of the control of glycogen metabolism. Consequently the neural and hormonal regulation of this system is understood in considerable molecular detail and it continues to act as the model to which all others are compared. This paper will summarize the major advances that have taken place over the past three years. Work up to July 1976 [5] and March 1978 [6] has been reviewed previously.
