Abstract
Let Ww be a manifold and H a w-ball such that W ∩ H ⊂ ∂W, and suppose that there is a homeomorphism h: Ip × Iq → H, such that h (Ip × Iq) = H ∩ W. Then we say that (H, h) is a handle of index p on W, or simply that “H is a p-handle”.
