Abstract
In this paper we mill report some results obtained in experimental and theoretical studies of the spectral and temporal behaviour of laser systems in which special conditions are fulfilled. In our case mode competition and mode coexistence effects play an important role. Specifically, this paper deals with the argon-ion laser which has a homogeneous emission line much broader than the inhomogeneous (Doppler) line, although these effects are not restricted to this laser type.
