Fate of Steroids Injected into the Amniotic Cavity

The first report on dehydroepiandrosterone injection into the amniotic fluid of a patient with a live anencephalic fetus was made by Frandsen and Stakeman [279]. An increase of urinary estrogen excretion was noticed, particularly in the estrone-estradiol fraction. Similar findings were also obtained in women scheduled for legal abortion [107].
