Application of Megagauss Fields to Studies of Semiconductors and Magnetic Materials

Abstract

Various measurements have been carried out for semiconductors and magnetic materials in ultra-high magnetic fields generated by an electromagnetic flux compression method. Cyclotron resonance in n-GaP was observed at the wavelength of 119 μm and the longitudinal mass was determined as mℓ* = 4.8 mo. Magneto-optical exciton spectra were measured for GaSe, PbI2 and CdS. An anomalous diamagnetic shift of the ground state was observed for each material. Transitions of the spin configuration were observed in TbIG and GdIG by both Faraday rotation and reversible magnetic susceptibility measurements, and the spin phase diagrams were investigated.
