A Sensitive HgCdTe Bolometer for the Detection of Millimeter Wave Radiation

Abstract

The detection of low-power millimeter and submillimeter wave radiation is often carried out with n-InSb hot carrier bolometer mixers. In pure n-InSb at liquid-helium temperatures the temperature Te of the free electrons can be raised by the absorption of RF power. Since the electron mobility under these conditions is determined by ionized impurity scattering the dependence of the resistivity on the electron temperature is described by ρ ∝ Te -3/2.
