Abstract
Pathogenesis. Underdevelopment of the breasts (Fig. 86) is usually a constitutional variant, probably caused by an inadequate response of the parenchyma to hormonal stimuli. Mammary hypoplasia is also observed in hypogonadism from ovarian failure, in which case menstrual abnormalities and poor development of the external and internal genitalia are also seen.
