Chemisorption on Semiconductor Surfaces

Theory of Chemisorption

Part of the book series: Topics in Current Physics ((TCPHY,volume 19))

Abstract

The close contact between theory and experiment in semiconductor surface studies has shaped the form of recent theoretical studies to a large extent. As a result, these studies have concentrated on specific substrate surfaces and adsorbates, with little attention to “generalized” models. The systems were typically chosen on the bases of simplicity and experimental accessibility. These criteria led to a concentration on low index surfaces, and ordered adsorbed layers with simple unit cells. Since independent-electron models, with correlation treated in an averaged way [3.1,2] have proven adequate to interpret experiment, there has been little work on specifically many-body effects [3.3].
