Zusammenfassung

Eine kurze Darstellung der Wirbellosenglia im Rahmen eines Handbuches der mikroskopischen Anatomie des Menschen scheint gerechtfertigt als Beitrag zur Erschließung allgemeiner Bauprinzipien auf der Basis der Stammesgeschichte dieses funktionell so vielseitigen Gewebselementes. Zahlreiche ältere und neuere Arbeiten, die sich in erster Linie auf den erregungsleitenden Anteil des Nervensystems verschiedener Invertebraten konzentrieren, enthalten auch mehr oder weniger aufschlußreiche, z.T. überholte Angaben über die Neuroglia. Tiefgreifende, sich ausschließlich damit befassende Studien sind jedoch selten und fallen meist in die klassische Periode der Gliaforschung. Die vorhandenen Literaturquellen sind daher lückenhaft, ungleichwertig und nicht vollständig erfaßbar, bieten aber immerhin genügend Anhaltspunkte für eine vergleichende Übersicht in dem hier vorgesehenen Rahmen.
