Abstract

The definition of molecular crystals by the separation of intra- and intermolecular vibrations is sometimes difficult. The concept of this separation is certainly useful and provides a starting point for the theoretical analysis. The field is rapidly growing and more basic treatments are required in order to understand the delicate playing together of both types of modes in these crystals. Two molecular crystals, NaNO3 and KNO3, may be found in Chap. 14 among the ABO3 structures.
