Abstract

Low temperature (193°K) spectra of menthol isomers in CH2Cl2 solution show that menthol and neomenthol exist practically in one conformation with equatorial alkyl groups; in isomenthol and neoisomenthol conformations with axial methyl group are more favoured (K193° ≃ 2 and 1.5). T1-s from menthol isomers are in accordance with their relative thermodynamic stability.
