Abstract
Recent progress in semiconductor technology is making possible public information systems such as Teletext and Viewdata. The home computer, which makes use of the microprocessor, is another important development which depends on the same technology. This paper describes a home information terminal called Micterm-2 which combines the features of a Viewdata terminal and a home computer. The use of local processing and local storage of information can make information services, such as Viewdata, easier and more economical to use. The terminal also provides additional facilities which do not need connection to an external computer. A particular feature of Micterm-2 is the menu which, together with a simple numeric keypad, can be used to control the operation of the terminal and associated peripherals.
