Intermolecular Forces Revealed by Raman Scattering

  • Chapter
Raman Spectroscopy of Gases and Liquids

Part of the book series: Topics in Current Physics ((TCPHY,volume 11))

Abstract

In this chapter, the recent experimental and theoretical developments in the general area of Raman spectral shapes are surveyed. In particular, the dependence of the spectral shapes on intermolecular forces is emphasized. Information about intermolecular forces that has been obtained from the study of Raman spectra in gases and liquids is summarized. It is pointed out that quantitative information has been obtained from the Raman line shapes in many low density gases.
