Abstract
Carabids belong to the suborder Adephaga of the order Coleoptera. As compared with the 200 families comprising the other suborder, the Polyphaga, the Adephaga as a group are poor with respect to number of families. To it belong several aquatic families, the most important of which are the Dytiscidae, Gyrinidae, Haliplidae and Hygrobiidae.
