Abstract
In patients with severe brain damage resulting from head injury who survived in apallic syndromes and related conditions, neuropathologic examination has demonstrated a large variety of cerebral lesions (Strich, 1956, 1969; Girard et al., 1963; Grcevic and Jacob, 1965; Jellinger, 1965a, 1968; Peters, 1969). However, little is known so far about correlation between the nature and distribution of the anatomic changes in the brain and the course and prognosis of the rather uniform clinical pictures of so-called traumatic apallic states (Gerstenbrand, 1967).
