Abstract
Both the management of individual patients and the comparison between groups of bone tumor cases can be seriously complicated by uncertainty with regard to the definition of the terms used in the pathological nomenclature and classification of these tumors, and by differences in the practical application of such definitions. Numerous attempts have been made to overcome these difficulties at both national and international levels: one of these is the classification and series of definitions proposed in a World Health Organization study (16).
