Die bisherige Norm DIN 40685 „Keramische Isolierstoffe für die Elektrotechnik, Grupppeneinteilung, Typen und Technische Werte“ vom November 1967 liegt als „VDE-Bestimmungen für keramische Isolierstoffe Blatt 1 Einteilung, Anforderungen, Typen und Blatt 2 Prüfverfahren“ vom September 1974 vor und ist inhaltlich identisch mit VDE 0335 Teil 1/9.74 und Teil 2/9.74.
