Light Absorption in an Idealised Photoreceptor on the Basis of Waveguide Theory

  • Chapter
Photoreceptor Optics

Abstract

In a recent paper (FISCHER and RÖHLER, 1973) we investigated the excitation and absorption properties of a photoreceptor model which consisted of an infinite, dielectric, absorbing cylinder, imbedded in a non-absorbing dielectric medium. In our opinion the essential progress made in this paper, compared with former model calculations (SNITZER, 1961; RÖHLER and FISCHER, 1971) is the consideration of exciting plane waves which are inclined to the axis of the cylinder.
