Abstract
In 1925 our total knowledge of the molecular structures of polysaccharide components in connective tissues was presented in a few pages by LEVINE (1925). Chemical data were limited largely to a single substance, chondroitin sulfate. Since then the list of polysaccharides that have been identified chemically and characterized structurally has grown rapidly, particularly within the last two decades.
