Preinvasive Carcinoma

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 44))

Abstract

The term “preinvasive cancer”, or its more common synonym “carcinoma in situ”, is nowadays being freely applied to an ever increasing number of lesions in different organs. The terms are used to describe not only a special form of the growth of a cancer, but also a stage in cancer development which implies that sooner or later the cancer will shift into the typical invasive growth form. In this latter sense they become wideley known and accepted.
