Abstract

According to our knowledge of cytogenetics, numerical and structural changes of chromosomes cause the change of genes or gene arrangements. Since the report of Boveri in 1912, many cytogeneticists have observed abnormal mitosis and the resultant chromosome changes in tumor cells and they have emphasized that the chromosome plays an important role in tumor development. In an early study of tumor cells, primary concern was directed to the abnormalities of cell division. Studies have been carried out on the solid tumors obtained from human patients and laboratory animals by use of the classical microtechnique.
