Abstract
I think it is fair to say that an impartial observer would have had great difficulty in coming to any conclusions as a result of the discussion concerning nomenclature and classification of the acute leukemias. The title of this session included the term workshop, which usually carries the implication that some action or recommendation will follow. However, it would be impossible for me to recommend the adoption of any set of parameters on any morphologic classification for the acute leukemias on the basis of the discussion which took place, since I am uncertain from the available information which morphologic classification and battery of measurements would be optimal. Furthermore, I doubt whether, if I were to suggest the adoption of a classification, this would be accepted by either my European or American colleagues.
