Abstract

When using micro methods it is frequently necessary to obtain quantitative values for the wet weight of very small tissue samples. For dry weight determination, a number of sensitive methods (quartz fibre balance [see chapter 8], electron microscopy [see chapter 7], interferometry etc.) exist. For fresh weight determinations it is essential to avoid the loss of water when the sample is being transferred to the balance. Using the procedure described by Neuhoff (1971), determination of the fresh weight of tissue samples in the range between 1 mg and 0.01 mg can be made easily.
