Abstract

Ever since its first exposition by Kendall [1951], the concept of imbedded Markov chain has been widely applied to the analysis of a remarkably large number of queuing and storage processes that are not in general Markovian. Methods of accomplishing this for bulk queues will be discussed in this chapter. Also, an abstract formalism which gives a rigorous and convenient base for conducting a study of such Markov processes will be presented.
