Abstract
The numerous difficulties encountered in evaluating the various immune reactions to insulin (insulin allergy, insulin resistance) under standardized conditions led us to carry out animal experiments. The intention was to produce a delayed immune reaction to insulin and then later to make a more exact study of the humoral antibodies in their varying stages. We hoped to be able to draw conclusions concerning insulin-treated diabetics from these results. The guinea pig was selected as the experimental animal, because this species, in contrast to numerous other kinds of animals, resembles man in its ability to reproduce a florid immune reaction of the delayed type as well as to produce humoral antibodies.
