Abstract

At the Marseille Symposium in 1963, clinical definitions of pancreatitis, later known as the Marseille classification, were adopted. The different clinical manifestations of pancreatitis were classified into the following groups: (1) Acute pancreatitis; (2) Relapsing acute pancreatitis; (3) Chronic relapsing pancreatitis, defined as chronic pancreatitis with acute exacerbations; and (4) Chronic pancreatitis [13] (Table 4.1).
