Abstract
Precision and efficiency of laser incisions on soft tissue were investigated by means of a flashlamp pumped Holmium laser, particularly for reopening ureteral strictures. The laser radiation was applied in contact by guiding a bare fiber tip nearly tangentially over the tissue surface. A longitudinal cut through the ureter wall was performed.
In a first clinical trial 20 patients underwent the laser therapy. We used a Holmium laser in free running mode at a pulse repetition rate of 10 Hz with an average power of 3 W at the distal tip of a 300 μm low-OH quartz fiber. The laser ureterotomy took about 18 min. with an average laser energy of 828 J applied. No complications due to the laser treatment were observed.
