Abstract

The world environment is still worsening steadily. In spite of increasing concern over global environmental problems their improvements do not seem in sight. The world population is growing at the rate of 1.5 percent per year. Energy and natural resource consumption have been increasing with the enlargement of the disparity between South and North. Since the 1992 Rio Summit, little has been done. Despite the pledges given to the protection of global environment, public attention has been distracted toward economic recession on one hand and the ethnic and religious conflicts in various parts of the world.
