From Data to Knowledge

Summary

After summing up the main parameters and problems of vocabulary acquisition in a foreign language, the paper discusses the possibilities of using a computer in order to optimize the learning process. As a concrete step towards finding a solution the concept and structure of the VOCA-Research Project is introduced, which attempts to make the conditions of second language vocabulary learning more explicit and effective, both from a theoretical and a practical point of view.
