Abstract
During intensive care in VLBW there are very often problems of insufficient weight gain and growth in spite of sufficient support with carbohydrates, fat, and protein [1–6]. At the same time we could observe that peripheral vasoconstriction was present with incubator care at “neutral-temperature-conditions”. The babies showed signs of thermal stress. We monitored rectal temperature and felt that this was insufficient for controlling the babies optimal thermal conditions. The questions is, whether intensive care at neutral-temperature-conditions is appropriate for very sick VLBW-babies?
