Abstract
In the actual discussion of sediment quality criteria the approaches of sediment-water equilibria being more oriented to basic science are of particular interest (Förstner 1989). Since sediments are increasingly recognized as both a carrier and a possible source of contaminants in aquatic systems, the partitioning mechanisms of chemicals between water and sediment play a major role for understanding the pollution of sediments (Förstner 1989; Förstner et al. 1987).
