Abstract

The Western countries, for instance America and Germany, are drug-consuming societies. More than 1.6 billion prescriptions for more than 30.000 different drugs are written each year in the United States (4). In the Federal Republic of Germany in 1991 more than 750 million drug packages were prescribed for which the health insurance had to pay more than 21.8 billion DM (3, 6).
