Abstract
In Forensic Toxicology a suitable blood sample for the determination of blood ethanol concentration (BEC) is not always available. In these cases some alternative biological tissues and fluids have been investigated for their relevance in predicting the BEC. In order to recognize how ethanol concentrations varies among five different biological fluids, we compared the ethanol concentrations in cardiac blood, femoral blood, urine, vitreous humour and synovial fluid. These samples were collected whenever possible from 64 corpses autopsied at the Medico-Legal Institute of Oporto (IMLP).
