Zusammenfassung

Die Geschwülste des Thoraxraumes werden in 2 Gruppen unterteilt: Tumoren der Lungen und der Trachea sowie primäre Mediastinaltumoren. Während die primären Mediastinaltumoren und Tracheakarzinome seltene Geschwülste sind, gehört das Bronchialkarzinom zu den häufigsten Geschwülsten. 1983 wurden 35% aller Krebstodesfälle bei Männern und 17% bei Frauen in den USA vom Lungenkrebs verursacht (American Cancer Society 1993).
