Zusammenfassung

Trotz signifikanter Verbesserung der dialytischen Behandlung stellt die Nierentransplantation heute das übliche Therapieziel bei Kindern mit terminaler Niereninsuffizienz dar (4–7, 9, 15). Ein gut funktionierendes Nierentransplantat verbessert die physische, psychische und soziale Lebensqualität eines Kindes weit mehr als jegliche Form der Dialyse und verbessert auch die Prognose. Noch vor fünfzehn Jahren waren weder Hämodialyse noch Peritonealdialyse bei Kindern zu großer Anwendung gekommen. Dies hat sich jedoch geändert, und heute können viele Kinder mit schweren Systemerkrankungen oder kongenitalen Nierenerkrankungen dialysiert werden. Dies wiederum hat zu einer größeren Anzahl an Transplantationskandidaten geführt.
