Abstract
In a study from the Istituto Nazionale Tumori, Milano, Italy, Dr. Pinucca Valagussa began with a series of 219 patients younger than 38 years of age at diagnosis who were potentially able to become pregnant following their diagnosis. These women came from a series of 2586 women treated between June 1973 and July 1990. Of these, 1542 were premenopausal but only 219 were under the age of 38 at the time of diagnosis. Fourteen were treated with surgery alone, while 205 had adjuvant chemotherapy with CMF in varying protocols. The 205 patients included 43% with more than three positive nodes, 54% with primaries >2 cm and 36% with estrogen receptor (ER)-negative tumours. The women were followed for a minimum of 67 months from surgery.
