Abstract
In 1991 the first upper digestive anastomosis using the Valtrac biofragmentable anastomosis ring (BAR; Davis and Geck, USA) was performed and published at the second Department of Surgical Oncology “Regina Elena” Cancer Institute. Since then we have not found any other case reported in the medical literature. A patient affected by a transverse colon adenocarcinoma infiltrating the greater gastric curvature at level of the antrum underwent an en bloc transverse colonic and distal gastric resection. The digestive tract was reconstructed by a gastroduodenal and colo-colic anastomosis using a double Valtrac BAR. Both the BAR disappeared at X-ray control after 4 weeks, and the patient was discharged from hospital after the operation without surgical complications.
