Polymerization of Phenyl Substituted Cyclic Olefins with Metallocene/Aluminoxane Catalysts

  • Chapter
Book cover Ziegler Catalysts

Abstract

The ethene/phenylnorbornene and ethene/phenyl-DMON copolymerization was investigated by using two Cs-symmetric ([Me2C (Fluo) (Cp)] ZrCl2 III), [Ph2C (Fluo) (Cp)] ZrCl2 IV) and two C2-symmetric ([Me2Si (Ind)2] ZrCl2 I), [Ph2Si (Ind)2] ZrCl2 II) catalysts with methylaluminoxane (MAO) as cocatalysts. The copolymerization parameters are calculated according to 13C-NMR measurements. The Cs-symmetric catalysts are very suitable for yielding amorphous copolymers with glass transition temperatures of 230 °C and molecular masses greater than 100000 g × mol−1. These copolymers could be used as materials for optical discs and fibres
