Zusammenfassung

Die akute respiratorische Insuffizienz (ARI) ist ein zentrales Problem der Intensivmedizin. Sie kommt vor als Primärerkrankung (z.B. Pneumonie, Thoraxtrauma) oder als akute Dekompensation chronischer Erkrankungen (z. B. bei chronisch obstruktiven Lungenerkrankungen - COLD), aber auch als Komplikation unserer intensivmedizinischen Maßnahmen (z.B. als nosokomia- le pulmonale Infektion, als Barotrauma), insbesondere aber als Begleiterkran- kung anderer (häufig systemischer) Erkrankungen (z. B. bei Sepsis, im Rahmen eines Multiorganversagens).
