Abstract

Extensive physiological studies have implicated the plant growth hormone auxin, typified by indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), in the regulation of cell elongation, cell division and cell differentiation, the driving and shaping forces in plant growth and development (Estelle, 1992). Auxin mediated cell elongation, one of the fastest hormonal responses in plants (Evans, 1974), is associated with rapid changes in gene expression (Guilfoyle, 1986; Theologis, 1986). The signal transduction pathway(s) responsible for auxin-regulated transcriptional activation are unknown.
